This page provides an overview of the rest of the information on the website for practising GPs, GP trainees and anyone considering a career as a GP.  

The resources provided by the ICB’s Workforce and Training Hub, and other partners, are designed to support GPs at every stage of their career from a Trainee on the local VTS through to nearing retirement. 

The following provides you with some high-level information on each of the main headings above, enabling you to navigate to the most appropriate page and information: 

General Information and Guidance

This is a sort of “catch-all” section, with information on such topics as appraisal, insurance and finance. Much of this section consists of links to other sources of information, for example from the BMA.

Thinking of Becoming a GP 

This section is designed for anyone considering a career as a GP – i.e. sixth-form students, medical students and foundation year doctors. The information contained in this section should assist you in making the right decisions for your career. It is also designed for career advisors, teachers and lectures to enable you to advise your students appropriately. 

GP Trainees 

If you’re considering applying to be a GP Trainee in STW, or if you’re already on the STW GP training scheme, this section is for you. It contains information on the often-challenging transition from being a GP Trainee to becoming a fully-qualified GP. It also should be of interest to you if you are an International Medical Graduate (IMG) as it provides information and sources of support on all aspects of visas. 

Practising GPs 

For all practising GPs, whether Partners, Salaried or Locum, this section is for you. Among other things is provides information on the various GP Networks that are in place to support you in your career. It also contains information on becoming a GP Partners, working as a Locum and how best to access support in various aspects of your working life.
