Appraisal
Appraisals as a GP
- This is an annual process where you have a meeting with an allocated appraiser– it’s important for patient safety, to check on your wellbeing, professional development, and GMC revalidation.
- You’ll normally have the same appraiser for three appraisal cycles, after which a new appraiser will be allocated. This helps build a supportive professional relationship while ensuring fresh perspectives over time.
- All GPs – Partners, Salaried, locums etc need to participate.
- Appraisal cycles at times may be longer than a year if you have taken any time off work, such as for maternity leave or sickness.
Low Clinical Volume
Each year you must achieve a set number of clinical sessions face to face or a low clinical volume form would need to be completed. More info can currently be found here.
How to book your appraisal
Each year you are allocated an appraiser; you will get a reminder to arrange an appointment directly with them that gets fed back to the appraisal team.
Appraisal systems:
There are a number available with different pros and cons, these include Clarity and Fourteen Fish.
Appraisal team contacts:
For local information about appraisal you should contact Dr Melanie Thompson melanie.thompson20@nhs.net, one of the STW appraisers.
