Introduction

If you’re considering applying to be a GP resident in Shropshire, or if you’re already on the Shropshire GP training scheme, this section is for you.

It contains information on the often-challenging transition from being a GP resident to becoming a fully-qualified GP.

The information is set out in the following three sections – click on the buttons above to get more information.

  1. STW GPVTS

The Shropshire GPVTS is the local training scheme for doctors wishing to qualify as a GP.

You will normally spend three years on the VTS – ST1, ST2 and ST3.

 2. International Medical Graduate (IMG) Support

In Shropshire, we welcome many IMG doctors from all around the world. IMG doctors make up around 60% of residents on the local training scheme.

We recognise that moving to a new place and working in a new health service can pose unique challenges for our IMG doctors in training. As such, lots of support is available for IMG GP Trainees/Residents on all aspects of life in the UK, from visas to settling into Shropshire/Telford.

 3. Placements

During you time on the VTS you will be on placement at the local acute hospitals and at one or more GP Practices.
